Swedish Confessions

I went on a job interview for a new bar job yesterday and did the one thing you’re not supposed to do; I told the interviewers (1 minute into the interview) that I had plans to travel to Sweden in a couple of months and after that try to get a job in design. Great. I don’t know what got into me. I think it just threw me that there were two of them and that their first question to me was “what are your plans?” I got a case of verbal diarrhoea and blurted out all my plans that didn’t include working for them. Better luck next time..

I am over this semester. I want Swedish semester! (holiday)

I have 4,5 subjects this last semester at Uni. And a personal project that I just can’t seem to get a move on (sorry Cicci!! It WILL happen).

It’s a good thing I am in a non party phase. All I want to do is stay home, get in shape, and save my money for when the man comes to visit. This equals no wine or party time for Linda (currently a slightly unhappy and stressed camper).

Uni project in After Effects about typographer William Caslon. Yawn! Why couldn’t I get someone cooler? Or a more interesting typeface.? Blah.

Wagga

After a serial downer (rent increase, uni stress, work problems, sickness, etc) I escaped the Melbourne misery for a week in Wagga with the man. It could have gotten off at a slightly better start (I missed my flight), but the rest of the week was as good as it gets. Who would have thought this ice queen would eventually melt into a puddle of corniness. However, by the end of the week my phone threw in the towel and my whole body broke out in a rash (I established it was a case of Wagga allergy). It was clearly time to return to reality (and sweet civilisation) in Melbourne. Now I still have all those issues to deal with, plus more uni work. But it was well worth it.

It’s good to have the brother visiting. He fixes things around the house. So far he has fixed the curtain rod, power point, towel rack and soon (he doesn’t know it yet) all my chairs. You just give him the screwdriver and my little floral hammer, let him whine for a bit (he only does it to not seem too eager) and then let his ego grow for ever screw he tightens. Ooh that sounded a bit perverse..

Anywho, he also bought a cord to connect the computer to the TV. So we spent the afternoon re-watching Californication. Oooh how I love that show. And Moody.. Mmm.. He is exactly the kind of swine I would usually have gone for.

And ehum, but how hot is Karen? Perfect har – check, aviators – check, cheekbones – check.
Worries Linda might be a lesbian (again) – check.

Overheard at the bar

Two guys behind me in the line were talking about the bar maid:

“Hey, did you see the Swede?”
“Yeah.”
“She looked pretty gross, didn’t she use to be hot?”
“Nah, she was never hot. But she’s still Swedish..”

I don’t know if I should be offended on behalf of all Swedes or just relieved by the fact that being Swedish gives you a fuck guarantee, no matter how bad you look..?

According to a recent study, most men do not count a lesbian affair as cheating. I think that means I can become temporarily lesbian with Kelis, the most underrated artist in the World. Fuck she was awesome at Good Vibes. I can easily say she was by far the best act of the day.

I believe I can die happy now. I received a shot from the cuter half of Yolanda Be Cool whilst the other half was still playing We Speak No Americano. I swear I could have slept with him, but apparently (according to my concerned brother) that is not allowed if you’re in a relationship. Darn.

It was a day full of seriously good vibrations.

Today we are picking up two more Swedes at the airport.

This photo was taken at Melbourne Open. Please not the man in the blue shirt in the background. The text reads “Fuck me I’m Swedish”. All class.

Combat Company

Combat Björn flew half way across the world (to Sweden) only to end up right back where he started (in Australia). After this he went through a bit of a life crisis. I was starting to worry about him and considered buying him some company (of course without telling him I had paid for it.. the bear still has dignity). However, just as I was going to make a call to the highest class prostitute agency I knew, I found him canoodling with seal Helmer in my bed. So instead I spent my money on new sheets.

Annelie came and went in what seemed like two days, but what really was 1,5 weeks. The day after her departure I flew to Wagga and the man for a couple of days of corniness and cuddles only to meet up with the next visitor, Caroline, at Melbourne airport on the same day that I got back. It’s a good thing I love the company of these munchkins, otherwise I would be going insane, always having people around. I have actually only had one night alone since I got back from Sweden exactly a month ago today. And the visitors will keep coming – on Thursday my brother gets here with a friend and are planning to stay for at least two weeks. Ehhm, tourist guide/hostel owner heeelllooo! But it’s lovely and keeps it all interesting. I might need a holiday just in time for when uni starts though..

I am facing the hardest part of living in two places; saying goodbye to the people I love. Over and over again. I never get used to it and it never gets any easier. I leave for the airport in three hours and will be back in Melbourne in a little over a day. This after spending the most amazing Christmas with the most amazing family and friends.

In an hour I’ll be on my way to visit the relatives. This is the sour aftermath of the awesome day that was yesterday. Yesterday was a day at home without obligations. Today and tomorrow are days full of obligation to visit every relative still alive and being everywhere but where I would want to be.

See you in two days, if I survive this.

It’s always interesting to come “home”. I see the family, meet up with the friends I’m sure I’ll know for the rest of my life, and mostly just enjoy having absolutely no obligations. It is a funny in between state. It’s like I’m on holidays minus the excitement and insecurities. Or like being in rehab plus alcohol.

This time is slightly different, for a number of reasons. It is Christmas, it is the last Christmas with my beloved dog, I don’t know when I’ll be back next, and I have entered a relationship with someone during this and have still not been able to enjoy it with him so I am always longing for something else. I love being here but I also can’t wait to go back to Melbourne and see him.

On friday is Christmas Eve and it will be magical. It will be totally different from last year when I was out drinking with friends, pretending it was just another night out. My heart will still be torn but slightly warmer because it is after all, where it was born and fundamentally belongs.

For the first time in my life I really really really like someone (love?), and unsurprisingly the circumstances are against me and I’m half a world away from him.
And as if that wasn’t enough; when I get back I’ll only get to spend a few days with the guy before he goes back to work at the army base, and in two years he will go to war in Afghanistan for nine months (if he even makes it that long..). I really know how to pick them, don’t I?
